Cette vari\u00e9t\u00e9, Nymphaea ‘American Star’, a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte en 1985 et commercialis\u00e9e en 1996 sous le nom de Perry Dean Slocum de PWG (Perry’s Water Gardens), une plantation faisant partie int\u00e9grante du patrimoine am\u00e9ricain et ayant connu son apog\u00e9e durant la seconde moiti\u00e9 du XXe si\u00e8cle. On raconte qu’elle<\/span><\/p>\n

fut d\u00e9couverte par hasard par un autre jardinier aquatique visitant le jardin de Perry Dean Slocum, o\u00f9 elle poussait \u00e0 partir d’un semis dans l’all\u00e9e des roses. Ses fleurs roses, aux longs p\u00e9tales fins caract\u00e9ristiques, en font l’un des rares n\u00e9nuphars rustiques roses \u00e0 pr\u00e9senter une forme \u00e9toil\u00e9e. Ses feuilles flottantes, d’un vert uniforme typique des n\u00e9nuphars, prennent une teinte brun\u00e2tre en grandissant.<\/span><\/p>\n

En culture, elle fleurit abondamment, elle devrait donc fleurir normalement m\u00eame si elle est cultiv\u00e9e de mani\u00e8re compacte, mais son rhizome est de type Odorata et pousse tr\u00e8s long, il est donc pr\u00e9f\u00e9rable de la traiter comme une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 dans un conteneur de plantation de grand diam\u00e8tre.<\/span><\/div>\n
